2nd Grading Period

Second Grading Period

Fourth year high school is a little bit of mess and a lot of fun for me, and we only have 4 grading periods. Time is like a fast-flowing river. You cannot touch the same water twice, because the flow that has passed will never pass again. But, time is also like the ocean. You can only hold a little in your hands. 2nd quarter has already passed, and the first half slice of the school year is already eaten.

Last 2nd grading period, we learned about the HTML (Hypertext Markup Language). It is the authoring language used to create documents in the world wide web. So, it means, we have learned on creating our web pages. We had seven (7) individual exercises in our workplaces in the Computer Laboratory 1. We have learned about tags, HTML files, web editors, stand alone tags, container tags, and the basic tags. We created whole HTML files. We also posted 5 blog posts. We did a lot. And, we learned a lot.
My Teacher, My Hero

Who could have ever lived without a teacher? Who could have ever imagined his life without a teacher? We are learners, but we cannot just learn all the time using our own experiences. We cannot do all things on our very own. Teachers help us with their knowledge and experiences, sometimes spoon-feed us, they help us learn and they make us wiser in facing life's problems and challenges.

As I have said in my earlier blog post entitled My Modern-Day Hero, a hero is someone who is able to make a difference in another person's life. A teacher is a hero. Our teachers are our heroes. Teachers open our sleeping minds and closed eyes to the world. They are the people who show you the reality of life itself. They are not only selfless givers, but also the mentors of your life. At every step of our life, we come across teachers who devote their lives in the enlightenment of students like us.

Anyone who guides you in your life is a teacher. He/She can be your parents, your brother or sister, your uncle, your aunt, or a random relative or friend. A teacher's definition is not limited to that of a subject-teacher. Of course we all want to show our teachers how thankful we are, but we can't find the appropriate time and proper occasion. So, last teacher's day, we commemorated our teachers' efforts and thanked them for being our guiding light in our lives. We expressed our love and gratitude to them, last Teacher's Day Celebration.

After the Teacher's Day, we can always show them our love by greeting them, respecting them and thanking them. They do not only show us the right path, but they also lead us to follow that track. They help us achieve success. Teachers are one of the greatest people whom we can encounter in our lives.

WAKE UP

 In

SEPTEMBER

The song "Wake me up when September ends" is not suitable for this September, for it is quite the high time to stay awake and act. "NATUREADY: Unravel the causes. Build the solution. Empower science clubbers to action." is the theme of this month's celebration.

This month is such an ample season in realizing the real momentousness of the Earth. It is the only planet that can be lived in bu us human beings. God gave it to our ancestors and we inherited it from them, and we, as the highest form of living creatures on Earth, are the stewards of all his creations. His creations include the trees, the seas, the mountains, the lands, the environment, and the nature.

This month is a great time for thanking Him for all His creations, and also thanking Mother Earth for everything she provides. Just before we lose these all, we must learn, start and continue to preserve and protect our nature. We must know how to use the 3R's: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. In that way, our mother wouldn't cry.

While it's still early, let us act now. Let's find out the things we did, that happened, and that caused all these collapses, ruins and destruction in the present. We can still bring back the healthy nature, even in this modern world. Let us all be one for e new beginning. Let life's uncertainties be solved, and intensify momentum for scientific probe. We are falling as one, so let us stand as one.

My Modern-Day Hero

In epics, a hero is a superman-like monster or evil-killing person. In novels about romance, a hero is mostly to save a man or a woman from any unlikely circumstances. This is now a modern world. A hero is not only one who slays monsters or saves lives. A hero is a person who is able to influence another.

For me, my father affects my life. He is a role model and a hero to me and to any body. My father is a statistician, a vice president of a university, a doctor of education, an administrator of some National, local, or large organizations, a professor, and especially, a teacher. He is a superman, and literally, a "Super Mario".

Some ordinary people can be more courageous than epic heroes, just like Odysseus. Odysseus takes risks. My father also sometimes takes risks. Once, he risked allowing me to join a "Beauty, Brains, Talent and Popularity" Competition. I was convinced  by teachers and students to represent my homeroom, not knowing that was already close to pure popularity. I should have swallowed what my parents said but i just wanted to try. The trust of my father to me was reverted in no time, of course, I am still his daughter he loves so much.

Just like Odysseus relieved his sailors and his son, my father helps me, my siblings my family his men and a lot of students and teachers. He is a great helper in such a way that he teaches and inspires people. He helps his students, who are teachers, in passing their doctorate degree. He helps them in their theses and suggests a lot. In programs in their university, he usually delivers speeches and inspirational messages. He also helps less fortunate relatives and neighbors in studying, especially, in the financial aspects. He does not think much of what ever's left, he just thinks of helping people and sharing even just a bit. Because, he knows, that he and my mother can work and receive the right amount, and others can not.

Odysseus goes to wars and runs his kingdom so he can provide for his family and all of the citizens of Ithaca. My father provides also for his family. He studied master's degree at UP Diliman, and Ph.D. at De La Salle University for us. He attends seminars and shares what he knows and learns for his men in the University of Northern Philippines and in other organizations.

To be a hero, you need not to slay monsters nor save lives, you just need to make a difference in others' lives. My father does so much, not only for his family, but also for other people. He is a great father, and a great man. He is similar and different to Odysseus. He is my modern-day hero.

AGOSTO

This month is such an essential season for all men and women in the Philippine aggregation to show their love, devotion and caress for their country. It helps us love our language more, and communicate in more welfare through one language. We are like a family having one common soul. We also get the chance to celebrate the greatness and uniqueness of our very own beloved profanity-- the Filipino language. August is such one of the best months among the twelve.

Letter to the President

Ilocos Sur National High School
Gomez St., Vigan City
Ilocos Sur
June 17, 2013

His Excellency Benigno Simeon Aquino III
President of the Republic of the Phillipines
Malacañan, Manila

Mister President:

           Warm greetings of peace!

I am writing you to express my thoughts about some of your important projects. I appreciate many of your projects namely: K-12 Program, Greening Project, and your campaign against graft and corruption. I strongly believe that your good governance is quite successful in realizing "Matuwid na Daan".

However, the maximum participation of your people in these projects needs to be emphasized. Parents do not full understand the purpose of the K-12 Program. Only a few barangays are conducting tree planting activities. As reported by media, some government agencies are not full supporting your advocacy against graft and corruption. I really feel that you should involve all government officials and employees in implementing your important projects. There's a need to reach out to the countryside.

Thank you for this opportunity to speak with my small voice. May God bless you more power.

Respectfully yours,
Francheska Marquit Obrero
4th year student

Extermination of Hunger and Malnutrition: Together

Since I was in 1st year high school, I used to hear from my adviser such a "usable" quotation. I could estimate her saying it 3 times a school week. It states there, "An ounce of prevention is a pound of cure,". She seems so motherly when she says those words.

It is factual. We must prevent something before we could even spend the rest of our time, days and years curing it. Prevention is far better than cure. And now, July gives us the chance to celebrate, for those who are fortunate, and change, for those who need it. Philippines is now at 50's when it comes to the poorest countries in the world. Isn't that too alarming? What could be the cause of this? Is it really because the government creates poor people, or because the poor people just don't help themselves?

They are mostly helped and lent hands to by some kind hearts. But some of them do not help themselves. They sit down, wait and abuse. They don't find ways to live with meaning. POVERTY must be eradicated. Now, what are the effects of poverty? HUNGER AND MALNUTRITION --- these are just two of them. People must help themselves to find ways to eat, and possibly, exist with enough food, fruits and vegetables taken by their stomachs. We must not only eat, we should all realize and consider what nutrition really means.

As they say, health is wealth. Even if you do not have that large pocket full of penny, if you are healthy, you can be considered wealthy. Being healthy takes small time but gives a lot of benefits. People can become physically fit, and they can do things better, even together. The Philippines can make a new leap.

Honestly speaking, I salute whoever did formulate the theme of this month which is "Gutom at Malnutrisyon: Sama-sama Nating Wakasan". It's suitable to our country righ now. Philippines is already ready for change.
